Plan International USA

Gender-based violence is forcing girls to flee El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. And the COVID-19 crisis is deepening the inequalities of girls.

SPONSORSHIP WORKS

Today, more than 1.5 million children are sponsored through Plan International USA, but many more are waiting for a compassionate person like you.

When you sponsor a child, you have the opportunity to develop a life-long connection with a girl or boy who needs you, while helping to improve the support network surrounding them. As a sponsor, you can support programs, innovation and infrastructure required to deliver our programs to girls and children worldwide, in areas such as protection, education, health, sanitation, disaster relief and economic empowerment. Community led, self-sustaining projects in your sponsored child’s community and country create sustainable change and address the root causes of poverty.

“With school, my sponsor and my health, I feel like I can do anything.”

FIGHT ROOT CAUSES OF MIGRATION

LEARN ABOUT CHILD SPONSORSHIP

For girls in unsafe neighborhoods in Central America, simply walking a short distance to school can be an enormous risk. And for 12-year-old Katherine, getting to school was especially difficult — not just because she was born a girl in Honduras, but also because she was born with clubfoot.

But Katherine’s life changed forever when she was told someone wanted to become her sponsor. Because of her sponsorship, she’s had four surgeries that have helped her walk, pain-free. Her disability doesn’t hold her back from school anymore. And, since child sponsorship helps fund scholarships for girls, Katherine has the tools she needs to finish her education.

“The only way I could get to school was to pay for a taxi, because walking hurt too much, she says. I fell down a lot and it made me feel unsafe.”

The childhoods of girls are being distroyed.

You can help children at risk.
